sil newbie questions

just discovered sil. I have playeed angband some, but not extensively. I have a few questions.

1. How do you rest? In most angband variants its &. if you cant rest how do you wait, etc...

2. having trouble understanding skill and skill points at creation. I assigned stats and then I assigned to skills. I read a few other posts. It looks like skills have sub-skills, like melee has power. it see some starts that start with assigning these sub-skills. I did not see a way to do this at creation? I have 6 skill points, but i need more experience to use them.

3. how do you get more skill points? is it based on level?

Weekends tend to be slow-reply for threads, so you are stuck with me. Haha.

Quick answers:

1. Rest to complete heal is shift+z. You can just hit the . key to wait a turn. There are probably other ways. The ? command will give you loads of helpful commands. The manual that comes bundled with the game also has lots of good stuff. I don't mean to come across as a jerk, but I simply don't know for sure of the top of my head, and those places have it for sure.

2. You can't buy the abilities from character creation process. Once game starts, you can use the tab key to look at and buy special abilities. The @ key, will let you enter the character screen and distribute new skill points as you get exp.

3. You get exp for seeing monsters, and killing monsters, and iding new forms of loot.

I wanted to give you some quick answers in the mean-time, until somebody more knowledgeable comes along, but these ought to limp you along just fine.
You are on something strange

Xp can be invested either in abilities or skill points. It is also easier to learn something you don't know much about, as in: More abilities, more xp cost, more skill points, more xp cost.
