So I guess rogues really are easier

So I just finished playing (dying) a human warrior who managed to get semi-instadeathed by a mystic down at around 1250
"It summons monsters - you're confused - the 7-headed hydra breaths fire - you die"

It never found an artifiact. Saqara's biggest problem that it had one damage that did better (not great) damage and another one that provided SI/ESP/FA

So I decide to try my first rogue. Grab some cure lights and phase doors
Head into the dungeon. I have literally 4 XP and what do I find

"you see the Dagger 'Narthanc' (1d4) (+9,+12) [+10] (??)"

It literally does more damage than any weapon my warrior ever found.

Resists Fire too...

Yeah, early Narthanc will make any class look good.

But I guess rogue is the best possible fit, with their 2.0 lb min effective weight.

Mages love 'thancs too both from the light weight and the savings in spell points they can help provide.

Ha! After losing a ~CL25 paladin to an ancient dragon that I was curious to see how good a *slays* dragons powerfully weapon was against, I just started up a ranger who found on DL1 both Narthanc and Nimthanc (would have been nicer to have found a nice bow or some armor instead of one of them...)! This must be the week they're handing them out on DL1

On my second warrior win, the first piece of loot I found was the cloak that gives you all the base resists *and* lets you invoke it to get all the base resists temporarily (don't remember the name). I didn't even know this cloak existed, so you can imagine what my eyes looked like it when I saw it.

The second piece of loot was Narthanc, and they were both in the same room.

Needless to say, that game was probably the closest you can get to cruising to victory in Angband.

Colluin. Very handy, especially for a class that has no access to temporary resistances.
