Not at all - I was surprised when I noticed it when playing, and then realised how I shouldn't have been surprised (because debo), and then thought the fact might be worth mentioning in this thread.

Nick has definitely earned the right to admonish me!

RuneID hardly matters for a mage anyway--the spell is low level and low cost.

I'm with debo on this. The id game is interesting for a while when learning to play, but eventually it just becomes a bit tedious. Same as monster knowledge. It's great to learn and discover things about monsters slowly over time, but at some point I wish I could just easily look up whether it was a Nightwalker or a Nightcrawler that had disenchantment versus having acid, etc.

Incidentally, a small tip for any newbies not familiar with Forced Descent: you don't have to use Word of Recall to return to the dungeon from the town. If you just use the normal stairs, that will put you at your former level, plus one; same as a recall will do. This only really matters in the very early going, but can save a few hundred gold, and cash is in short supply at the start.

I like how this comp has three winners all wielding slay-evil maces of disruption.

Congrats to Thraalbee for the first-place finish, and to tkm2d and Sideways for taking second and third place in this highly disruptive competition.
And with that, we hand it over to Gwarl o/ Seeya on the ladder, competitors ![]()
