V ?
I keep seeing people reference V as a version of Angband.... but with 4.2.2 being the most recent release this confuses me.
So, what's the deal?

You figured it out, V="Vanilla", of whatever version as opposed to a variant. (Although, in the long ago there was a developmental version that was itself called "V".)
