what is damage from light ?

i have an artifact that "shoots light in all directions" similar to the staff of starlight, however this one specifies "and does X much damage".

i've never figured out what starlight is supposed to do anyway, and i've never managed to hurt a monster with it.

if i activate my artifact, will the damage be done to ALL creatures (except those that resist light, ofc), or just to creatures that "cringes to the light" ?

does starlight work the same way? because it doesnt seem to hard, say, aimless merchants.

There are two types of light, weak and strong. Strong light is what light hounds breathe, and is a regular damage type. Weak light is what rods of light produce, and it only hurts light-sensitive monsters.

It sounds like your artifact is shooting strong light in a all directions, unlike a staff of starlight, which does the same for weak light.

Are there procgen aspects of artifact activations these days? I thought they just picked randomly from the pool of possible item activations, and there's no item I can think of that fires a starbust of hard light.

because the staff of starlight seems to be a quite deep item, compared to other rather more powerful staves, such as confuse, but has a *very* limited use, i.e. you need to find light-sensitive mobs, AND they need to somehow be arranged in a close formation.

what if this was changed to a ball of light, centered around the staff?
