The RNG is being nice. This can't be good.
I lost a lv35 Dwarven Paladin with some pretty decent equipment a couple days ago. Pure stupidity - I was in my first ever greater vault, about 2/3 cleared, hadn't even cracked the rooms with the big uniques and I wasn't certainl I wanted to. I found out afterwards he'd got Ungoliant in his monster memory at some point and I was only at 2000'
![]() I was pretty pissed because he was the highest level character I'd ever lost (I have one winner, High-Elf Ranger; otherwise I tend to lose them before clv15 if at all) and he'd just picked up all the stuff he needed to go down to 3500'. Lol I had so much stuff that would've saved him, just a phase door would've done. Anyway I went straight in and rolled up another one on the same save, played a bit more recklessly than usual (I am the player who runs away from everything and won't even think of going past a depth without the recommended resistance, so I was quite proud of myself for venturing below 1000' without See Invisible). Down on dlv17 he hacked his way through a bunch of Novice Paladins, business as usual, and one of them dropped a pair of {excellent} boots. Of speed. +9. And breaking news: he's just this minute got a Blessed Short Sword with ESP from the weapons shop, and Amras from a Spectre at 1700', which puts him at a tidy +10 innate speed, 3 blows and 2 shots per turn. My High-Elf Ranger winner only has +12 innate speed XD I don't have See Invisible if I equip it (I was using a Westernesse Katana), but I guess ESP can cover that..? I'm still paranoid about going below 2000' though. He doesn't have poison resistance and drolems as far as I know AREN'T detected by ESP. I do have a couple of rods of detection, but unlike Qs drolems can move... I really don't wanna lose this guy right now XD What's the safest way to get poison resistance - hang around 1900' and hope for an artifact? Oh yeah and idiot question. I'm using 3.1.0 beta but I downloaded it quite a while back. Do I have the perma-curse issue on my version, and if so has it been patched/can I fix it? I tend not to wear stuff without IDing anyway but I have butterfingers sometimes and I'd really hate to put Gorlim on by accident. [As a general note to the maintainer: Thanks for the superb work, I love 3.1.0! I was going to go on with my High-Elf Ranger as well, and hunt for some of the rarer artifacts, but after having been exposed to 3.1.0. I can't stand 3.0.6 any more XD I didn't even know some of the interface stuff was annoying until it was fixed] |

I feel your pain, I just lost a priest to an eth dragon.
Also, you won't die until the turn *AFTER* you find Ringil. |

An eth dragon? Is that the kind that breathes drunkenness? I wonder what an isoprop dragon breathes... or a meth dragon?

Drolems move and aren't detected by telepathy, but they're also uncommon and show up on Detect Evil (EDIT: ouch sorry no they don't).
Rings of Resist Poison are native to 2000' (Lev 40). AMHD are native at 2150' (Lev 43), and Drolems are native to 2200' (Lev 44). You still need to be careful and detect evil (EDIT: for the AMHD if you don't have ESP), but you can stay on 40-42 until you find a ring. Other than that, hope for an artifact or a lucky ego with a random high resist. Last edited by Marble Dice; July 10, 2009 at 16:23. |

I wish there were just a simple table showing each item and what to what depth it is native. And one for monsters. Looking through the edit files is a pain.

That's wrong, I thought that until I lost my most promising character to a drolem that Detect Evil hadn't revealed. Check the spoilers.
They are very nasty but not evil ![]() Quote:
Objects (separate files for basic, ego and artifacts) : http://www.juti.nl/hugo/Angband/Spoiler/objects.htm Monsters (I think all monsters are in this file, sorted by level) : http://www.juti.nl/hugo/Angband/Spoiler/mon-desc.spo PS : Note the spoilers are not totally up-to-date but I guess there were very few (if any) changes done since. You can also generate some spoilers for your current version from the tombstone menu but I don't remember which ones.

You can see the monster levels in the knowledge browser. (Use '~' to get there.) For whatever reason, object levels are considered spoilers, so they are not displayed. If you really care, you can add the appropriate fields to display_object() in cmd-know.c (at line 1560.)
Also: Drolems only show up with Detect Monster. (And yes, NPP Ranger detection is very bad.) |
