Is Sil still being developed?

Just wondering whether Sil is still actively being developed these days.

I know that the developers have a lot less time and it is already a very "complete" product so it is not like it actually needs anything, but I was just curious if there is going to be an update coming at some point in the future.

I think it was just a matter of life intervening and things getting delayed a bit versus the trend of roughly years updates.

There was mention of a 1.3 alpha, so I think a lot of work was done towards that. Once half gets back to it, I'm sure we'll see a new version out shortly thereafter.

I'd be surprised if there's ever another version. Sil was an exercise in game design, and a very successful (and fun!) one. My sincere respect and admiration to half and Scatha.

The previous update, with its chasms and increased difficulty, took a step backwards, IMO. I'm not sure there's much left to do, and I'm not sure the developers believe there is.

1.3 was supposed to ease some of the difficulty in the early game, and to provide players with earlier non-fatal opportunities to learn how things work while leaving the mid/lategame roughly the same. I'm sure it will come out eventually.

The existence of 1.3 pre-alpha is no secret ever since one tester accidentally put a char on the ladder. Since it appears to be eminently playable already, it sure will be published eventually. And some incremental improvements may trickle in after that.

I feel I have "played out" Sil since the Beren competition (where I genuinely lost Angrist in the throne room after recovering a Sil, albeit to another reason, and died almost on the doorsteps, albeit not to the wolf). The crown of the genre classical roguelike for me, all that I find fascinating about it without all the crap.

It is a bit sad there isn't more of a community and publicity for the game, but I guess there is only so much you can talk about without going into open world settings, obsessive AAR writing / storytelling. Wish I were a better spriter, though.

Sorry for reminiscing.

I stumbled upon this forum, but so far i could find a thread that explains what "SiL" exactly is.
Is there some explanation i did oversee?

It's a heavily modified Angband variant designed towards clean design, interesting tactics, and Tolkeinesque magics of song and smithing instead of blasty fireballs. It was also just updated! The announcement post is here, along with a link to the download page.

Quickest way to see is really to download it. The interface is pretty simple so you could just start playing pretty quickly.
