Any way to prevent accidental stair use?

Every so often, I accidentally use the up-stairs when I mean to look at the full map, but my finger misses the "m" key and presses the "<" key. Is there any way to force confirmation for stair use? I tried inscribing the "<" key as "<!*", but it didn't have any affect. Any ideas, besides paying more attention to my fat-fingers

Hmm, that feature is clearly not working!

If the < key isnt needed very often, you could always leave it on the floor while you explore the dungeon, then collect it before changing level. The only danger is whether you can find it again when you want it. I think Smeagol got to my 'windows' key and I never saw it again (not that it was any great loss).

Less facetiously, you could set up < to be keymapped to anything, then use the override keymap function ('\<') when you actually want to change levels.

Smart person. You could even map < to M so you'd get the map you wanted even when you fat-finger it!

We need a new variant: Mashband!

I get the suicide prompt a half dozen times per game. Now how does that happen?

You haven't keymapped over the !, @, #, $, etc. keys? They're my primary source of keymaps, since none of them do anything useful and they're more easily-reached than the function keys.

(@ is the suicide-prompt, in case you're not aware. Maybe you hit it while trying to eat something?)

Me too. It happens when I use shift-<somekey> and then q for quaff, and keep pressing down shift for too long. Thankfully suicide needs double confirmation.

In the same vein. is there any use at all to 'you spin around', other than to mock you for using ctrl instead of shift when running?

Ctrl+direction is a very useful input: it makes you attempt to attack the targeted direction (or disarm the targeted trap, etc.), but if there's nothing there then you don't move.

@ is suicide prompt confirmation in normal keyboard layout, not the actual suicide. You get suicide by pressing capital q (Q as in quit), so if you quaff something and press shift while doing that you get that prompt. Triggers also with caps lock on.
