Noob - gear question

Hi,
i am almost new here...
here is my question: to wear or not to wear a whip of Gothmog

dump: http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=17643

I have some difficulties with monsters constantly disenchanting my gear. It is anoying and probably dangerous, but i dont have how to resist it yet.

This is my deepest dive so far and I am afraid to do another step...

I'm not sure what the Whip has to do with Disenchanting monsters. AFAICT it doesn't protect from that...?

Generally, wrt. disenchanting monsters: Avoid melee. AFAIK there's nothing that disenchants at a distance. So: Find a bow/x-bow and use arrows... or just teleport them away (wand, and I believe rogue's get the spell in a book too?).

Do disenchantment breaths not disenchant? (e.g. chaos drakes, great wyrms of chaos etc.)
If not, I've been unneccessarily wary of them all this time.

I would recommend against Gothmog. As a rogue, one of your greatest assets is your superb stealth. Gothmog aggregates monsters which means your stealth is meaningless.

I could be wrong, but I think when something breathes disenchantment there is a chance your gear can be disenchanted. Most, if not all, artifacts tend to resist disenchantment so they won't be affected as easily. And obviously things like disenchantment eyes and molds that don't move should be attacked from a distance.

This is what I need to know, thanks.
I saw damage and then a lot of damage... it is "The whip!" you know... Nevermind, I will not to use it. It will be probably the best to destroy it.

And yes, molds, jelys, eyes and shroom patches monsters are best fried with fireball or from behind and distance. I know it now and it hurt just a little.

Disenchantment breath will try to disenchant a single random piece of equipment. It's a very rare breath weapon, though, especially compared to the number of enemies that hit to disenchant.

Artifacts have a 2/3rds chance of resisting being disenchanted, even if you don't have disenchantment resistance.

I strongly recommend that new players turn on the cheat for full monster memory. There are monsters out there that can kill you in one turn, or render you helpless in one turn that then leads to you dying, and learning about each one the hard way is no way to play in this day and age. If you're strongly opposed to "cheating", then get a Rod of Probing and use it on unknown monsters to learn most of their abilities.

I think it is not nescessary. I found first probe rod around DL 50 and I am ok with it. Untill this time I did not encounter so nasty beasts. I did not need to cry for help into the empty darknes of Angband keep until DL 80, but now here I am

What does it mean if in spoilers have monster in description: " It may breathe chaos (73) or disenchantment (73)"

Is it like probability 73 of 100?

I usual do not use spoilers but in this case i did and i do not fully understand.
