Have lanterns been removed from the general store?

in Angband 3.0.9 I've never found a lantern in the general store

I would much rather have a chance of the lantern being generated in the general store at the start of the game than no chance or even less of a chance it in black market.

Torches are just to heavy for any non warrior type class to always have to initially carry into the dungeon. And I never seen to find a lantern on the ground till dl10 or deeper, usually my 3rd trip into dungeon. Since I never have enough ammo by dl5 on first dive to handle bullroarer. Since he moves quickly it not so easy to avoid or run away. My first attempts to increase my depth/per turn ratio had 4 out of 5 characters killed on dl5 by bullroarer. So now I recall at dl4 and restock on supplies before going any further. just in case I can't avoid bullroarer without a pure warrior.

Yeah it took me a while to find one and shortly after i did, i found the phial.
Is there a balancing issue with being able to buy lanterns? traditionally it's one of my first purchases for a character.

It does seem silly that you can't buy them in town, but I actually like the incentive to keep using torches for a little while. (And if I find a torch of brightness, then I keep it even if I find a lantern later.)

What would really be nice is if you could also use torches as a weapon.

If you can buy a lantern straight away, there's no point in having torches at all. You might as well take out the torches and just give everyone a lantern.

This point has been raised multiple times; I just cut the weight of torches down to 1.5lbs each.

Good point. I noticed lanterns have many more turns than the brass lanterns i remember.
