Another Newbie needs help

First things first:
Vanilla angband is the classic version right? Where you only have 1 town and just Tolkien based monsters, classes and characters, right?

I'm not really a newb as I used to play about 15 years ago. I played a bit of the original angband then migrated to Zangband for some reason. The thing is I used to play without access to forums and nobody else I knew played so now I'm reading about these different tactics like aggressive diving (my old lesson was painfully slow meticulous clearing of each and every level).

Anywho, to cut a long story short I'd like some tips. But.... I don't know how to make a character dump.

Here are some screenshots:

https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resi...NSptjKqTxaDh5U

I'm currently diving to level 15, I'm a level 19 ranger. Am I diving too deep? Had a few hairy moments but I've been following the advice about steering clear of uniques until I'm ready.

As a ranger should I be relying a lot on my bow? I dont really have enough mana yet to cast spells for any length of time.

My main problem is my speed, as soon as I get weighed down with goodies I get really slow and turn into a punch bag. How can I increase my speed? Do I need to dive deeper to find speed rings or something.

I found the short sword of slay dragon recently which is nice and obviously really good against dragons but doesn't really pack much punch against other foes.

Also could you tell me a list of essential items / consumables I should be carrying at this level. I'm having trouble balancing leaving enough space to collect stuff and carrying emergency scrolls / potions / staffs etc.

Sorry, bit of a long post but any help you could give me would be most appreciated

Welcome to Angband.

Dump your character through the "C" command for character screen and then "f" for file. Then go to http://angband.oook.cz/ladder.php and in the lower part enter name and path to your character dump. The file is ~angband/lib/user/<myname>.txt

Ok thanks for the help.

Just a few more things:
What's better crossbow or long bow? At the moment I've got a crossbow.
So I should be good to dive to level 20 then. What resistances will I need? If I see a ring of free action in black market should I buy it?

Also do you carry identify scrolls to the dungeon or leave them at home?

If I find "average" weapons and armour in the dungeon should I just leave them so that they dont slow me down?

If you can buy a ring or boots or gloves of free action, don't hesitate.

Rangers get an extra shot with bows at level 20, your bow would probably be better then than the crossbow. Besides, bolts are heavier than arrows and crossbows are heavier than bows.

The basic resistances will show up (probably rings and amulets; also basic resistance armor).
It shouldn't be that dangerous without specific basic resistances at that level if you are careful.

If you don't need the money, leave the average weapons (if they slow you down). You don't get that much gold for them.
You want some means of identify with you until you learn the spell.

I've hit level 22 now (been playing all day, got the day off) and I only have one shot per turn. Although I do have heroic shooting. Could it be an issue with my launcher? Maybe I need a long bow.

Rangers get an extra shot only with a bow.

I carry usually 99 normal arrows and some of the better ones that show up in the dungeon.
