Can't sell items
Hello everyone,
Sorry for what is probably an easy question, but in my defense I did check the FAQ's and didn't quite see this. Anyways, I just downloaded 3.5.1 (probably haven't played this game since I was 10 or something) and I am unable to sell anything except unidentified items. How exactly do I switch this? I saw a command to switch to this mode in the manual, but not how to switch out, and I'm not really clear on where/how to enter the command either. Thanks! |

It's a birth option, which means it has to be set during character creation. Hit '=' to bring up the options during chargen and you can toggle it.
Note that with no-selling turned on, you get vastly more cash from money drops to compensate for the "lost" money from being unable to sell loot. The idea is to encourage players to spend more time in the dungeon and to use their entire packs for potentially-useful items, instead of having to reserve space for useless things that nonetheless have high sale value. |

Thanks, looks like I'll have to start again but at least I wasn't that far in!

yep not being able to sell all your crap looks bad at first, the hoarder in me was crazy at first but, it really is refreshing after a while!
When you see that you are free to trow everything away mid dungeon and only keep what is really worthy, and that makes a lot of space for things you usually wouldnt even try to use, like some wands/staves, potions and even two or more swap weapons and swap armor/jewelry. |

I could have been the OP, got tripped up on this the first 3.5.1 game I started. The option does make the early game a bit more tedious while you're trying to gear up when drops aren't exactly to your liking. It does make you want to carry a shovel and dig for AU a lot deeper than in previous versions. At any rate, by midgame you'll usually have enough money to buy anything in the market and the best things will be from drops anyway.
I do wonder why the devs chose to make no selling the default, it does trip up the newbs. Perhaps they wanted to make sure the feature was noticed? |

That said, people getting tripped up to the point of thinking there's a bug doesn't seem ideal, so a way around that would be nice.

I'm a "newb" I guess - my title even proclaims me to be a rookie. But, no-selling does make the game better. Instead of watching for "valuable" stuff to sell, you can concentrate on carrying serious firepower, and the odds and ends you feel you might need to deal with the unexpected.
I like the no-selling, but I wish my house were double or triple in size. I find myself throwing away stuff that I think I might need, to make room for stuff I'm certain that I'll need.

Currently you can have 24 different items in the home, and I guess same in shops. 26 item limit would not make big difference, but it would make a difference. |

"Welcome to Angband x.xx, No-selling is set by default. That means that the old gameplay of picking up every thing and dragging it to a shop is out, and to balance it we give you a ton more gold in loot. Please give it a try, we think you'll learn to love it. 80% of people who have played for 20+ years agree. Significant changes from version x.xx-1 are: a) something b) something else c) we took out your favourite quirk because the devs hate you d) we introduced a bunch of bugs to keep things interesting Have fun, The Angband Maintainers" |
