More details on when to use inscriptions?

I read most/all the docs, but one page says 'see below' yet it's the end of the page.

The only use I know is how to name my weapon and pick both to @1, then I can toggle between them using w1

The file mentioned several formats, I don't know how to use:
  1. !x
  2. !*
  3. @x#

And are there any other uses?

! is the "ask me before doing something" command. So !w means "ask before wielding", !d means "ask before dropping", etc. You can use !* to require prompts before interacting with the item in any way.

@ is the "I want to refer to this item with a number". So @w1 means "when wielding, treat 1 as referring to this item". @m4 means "when casting a spell, treat 4 as referring to this item", and so on.

I believe those are the only special inscriptions.

=g can be used to mean "always pick up this item" It's useless as an auto-inscription since it won't get inscribed until you pick it up. It's only really useful for ammo pickup.

At least one more !! gives you prompt when item has finished recharging.

Also I think there is one for "don't use stairs with this on" but I don't know what that was since I have never used it.

Also note that although @1 (or @2 etc) works, it makes it so any other action with a number does not.

So when you inscribe a scroll of identify with @r1 and a staff of identify with @u1, both can be triggered with r1 or u1 respectively. But when you inscribe the scroll with @1 and the staff with @u1 or @1, you can only use 'r1', u1 no longer does anything.
