Questions about diving and eq

Hey guys,

I have this char, http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=18030 and I have several questions:
  • Given his level and eq, should he be diving much faster?
  • Are my choices for eq sound or should I be using something else? I'm not using eq that maximizes my con or my dex and I tend to prioritize speed and then damage.

Sorry for the noob questions.

This looks pretty much an endgame kit to me (although I haven't personally been near the endgame for a while...). Your damage output, speed and HP are all good, and your missing resists are nice-to-haves rather than necessary (RChaos would be the one I'd be looking for). I think you can dive all the way to the bottom.

Well, that's pretty slow 'by modern standards', but there's nothing wrong with that. A decent rule of thumb is to make sure that your depth always makes you feel slightly uncomfortable, but not constantly terrified.

Having said that, 600dpr at speed+30 unhasted?! You're ready for Morgoth. Delaying it will only increase your chances of dying before you get there.

No, I think your choices are fine. You could chase that last fraction of a blow, or another 200HP, but why bother? Speed gives you more damage per opponent's round as well as giving you more opportunities to do other things in the meantime (and, of course, makes you run faster). Just heal every time Morgoth takes you below 600HP and I think you've got enough *Healing* and Life potions for that - and no doubt you'll find a few more on your way down.

You never need to apologise for good questions on this forum (or, frankly, even bad ones).

That's some interesting info. I never knew what was needed for the endgame. I had thought that one would want all those resistances, but it's good to know it's not necessary. I have everything resisted expect nexus, stun, and feather falling. I don't care about FF, but do I care about nexus if my stats are maxed? I still haven't found any weapon better than Ulmo.

The only elements that Sauron and Morgoth use are mana and nether, and mana is unresistable. You could technically go into those fights without the basic 4 resistances and not miss them, except both of those two summon other monsters who might use those elements to attack you. Elemental resistances can be helpful for making it to the endgame, but once you're there they don't make much difference.

Nexus: the teleportation effect is annoying, but with maxed stats you can't be scrambled. Stun: can be very useful, but is hard to get. Feather falling: totally pointless once you have enough HP (around 15) to survive a trap door or spiked pit trap.

Yes that's a final fight char. It looks like you might have some swaps at home that would get you to 18/200 con for a quick boost to HP. I'd see if you could do that while maintaining your +30 base speed and damage output.
