Windows misbehaving in windows (?)

Sorry this is going to be a very vague request for technical help, but my son called me with a problem he's having.

He's running Angband on Windows and it's been working fine for several weeks with a multiple-window ASCII layout, but he tells me he "clicked something" and now the game is coming up with a single screen instead of multiple information windows.

He has been trying to fix the problem using the "reset layout" option in the "windows" menu. He tells me he gets an intermittent result: either an error message "You can not do that right now." or a multiple-window layout with tile graphics rather than ASCII. If he changes it back to ASCII, it reverts to the single-window layout.

Any tips to help him get his layout back to multiple-window ASCII mode?

My best suggestion is to go into the Windows > Visibility menu and see if any of the term windows have had their visibility turned off.

Failing that, just getting a fresh copy and (assuming he's playing 4.0) copying everything in the lib\user folder from the old copy to the new one should work.

Try deleting Angband.INI from the main folder. That will reinitialize all preferences.

Thanks very much. I passed these tips on to him and he tells me his dunadan warrior is back in business.

Great to see him playing Angband instead of stupid free-to-play mobile games!
