Yeah, that sling is impossibly good for a mage (or, really for any character.) It's like carrying an Uzi into the Pits of Angband.

Super lucky at the start, with a sling of buckland on DL3 !!, then luck wore off and my hopes of a sub 100k win were gone. Did not find a single artifact light all game, nor any strong hitters, and by the end i had many uniques still alive. The final fight with morgoth took me nearly half hour!!, where once i ended at 17hp. TBH i had a lot of close calls and i'm not sure how i survived, having that sling made me overconfident and i played too casually, just by blind luck i didn't die. Code:

lost about a dozen paladins including one which had a +2 blows gloves artifact in the set. (i check every randart set of every game i play)

The 2000hp heal is a headache. It. Has such a high mana cost, and you never use it when you are injured more than around 400HP anyway. Heal300 was much better.

Classic game; i did all my level-appropriate grinds and never had any OOD item the whole game. The only lucky find was that x6 crossbow that i used to deal a good bit of damage to Morgoth, but the game was won by judicious stashing at home of Rune, Banishment, and *Heal. Good randart set but nothing obscene, however, all resists covered since fairly early on, and even if stats were low, i could take on pretty much anything. CCW until the very end. I don't know why but i forgot to enchant my main weapon ... tbh i was using it mostly as a stat stick for CON. Code:

good news, my Paladin just found Kelek's on DL18.
i predict that i will have to grind for hours at DL98 to find Wrath Of God. nm. i got double-moved by a black knight after his ninja escort drained my STR.
