Which do you think is the best version of Angband?

There's been ongoing discussion about directions for some time now. Let's get some data.

I can't vote because 3.0.9 isn't an option. why?

Wow, metacriticism.

Everyone: If I didn't include your favourite version, please write in, as will_asher has done.

For more information than you need (much of it correct) about Angband and variant version history, see this page.

For actual information about what changed in each version, people might like to go here instead.

I vote for 2.9.6

3.0.9b was the first version I played, and it probably had the best difficulty level, although the UI has been improved so much since then that it's hard to vote for it unreservedly.

It's a hard question to ask. I have some nostalgia for the pre 3.0 versions, but at the same time, I ALWAYS found it necessary to mercilessly cheat when playing those. So I voted for 3.3.2. I haven't found the need to go back to an earlier version, so for me, I guess the latest is usually the best.

I like 3.2.0. ID by use is great, and it's the last version to still have stat restore potions.

I got hooked during the long reign of 2.8.2 and 2.8.3. i find it ironic that the closest i ever came to a win was in 2.8.2 with a warrior. man that's a lot of character deaths. I like the way things are shaping up with the current development minus the store interface changes =P. I kind of lost interest when there where no more dos releases and the graphical tileset was made the default.
