Empty minded monsters are suspectible to the nether attack
I don't think this should be the case, especially elementals and golems. Maybe not completely immune like they are to the wands of drain life and annihilation (though IMO elementals and golems should be immune), but definitely not taking full damage.
The only way player can inflict nether damage is the Rend Soul spell, so it should not change the balance too much. |

I always read nether as an anti-life effect, not an anti-mind effect. Mushroom patches are empty-minded but alive; they should take full damage from nether. I'll grant that golems and elementals should probably be resistant though.
