Metric Angband

Any thoughts on making Angband metric? At the moment we're dealing in feet and pounds and that surely confuses a lot of players (like me). Could it not be a birth option to play with metres and kilograms?

Several monster descriptions use measurements in feet as well. Incidentally, Japanese versions (or, at very least, Hengband) are using metric system.

While the units are unfamiliar, they don’t matter save in a relative sense.

On the other hand, flipping between the displayed unit name wouldn’t be that hard. (The metric weights wouldn’t make sense, but that’s ok; the imperial ones don’t, either.)

Changing monster descriptions based on the option, on the other hand, would be a lot of work for very little gain, and is unlikely to happen.

Oh, come on now. Don't we all love the weight in "Stones".

I just consider it Tolkien flavor and am happy with that.

I agree. Further, I think ages should be in score: 1 score and 2, say, or 6 score and 13.

There used to be an option for displaying in metric, but it was removed in takkaria's option blitz because (a) it wasn't thematic and (b) it was barely used.

Nothing confusing about it. A foot is one three-hundredth of a football field, while a pound is one three-hundredth of a football player. I'm referring, of course, to American football and not metric football.

I'd like to see the damage from Impact Hounds displayed in Newtons.

I assume New ton is the metric ton, in opposition to the (imperial) Long ton and the (US) Short ton.

This is the blue sky thinking I was hoping for. Naturally cold hounds will be measured in Celcius and acid hounds can join the pH scale
