Fate?
My Oangband High Elf Necromancer recalled to DL46, and detected a green dragon pit, with 20-odd Ancient Greens and the rest mature and young. Not having RPois, I looked for the way to the nearest up staircase (not wanting to increase my recall depth), but went too close to the pit and a dragon came into view. I teleported it, but another appeared, so I gave up and teleported myself.
I took a roundabout way back to the stairs, and came on the dragon I had teleported. It seemed reasonable (with temporary RPois) to take it on by itself, so I did so. It dropped two items:
Went back, killed the rest of the dragons.

Actually I saw something very similar. Found a vault that had a couple of Drolem's in it and I had poison as a resist hole still so decided to skip it. Reconsidered and decided to knock off a white dragon by the entrance, he drops RorPoi

Unless things have changed since 0.7, rPois is not as vital in O as in V. My current character didn't plug that hole until around DL85, if I remember correctly.

Yeah, but I wouldn't want to touch a green dragon pit without it...

Character ended up being stormed to death by Waldern, incidentally.

Sorry to hear that. Try a shadow fairy rogue. They are great fun.

Yes, I've played Dark Elf Rogues in FA a bit, which are pretty similar.
