Used OS for Angband players

I would like to know what is the OS of choice of angband players. I'm trying to get it compiled using cmake and i suspect the vast majority use Linux.

Proud Amiga OS 4.1 user... nah just kidding.

Did you see http://angband.oook.cz/forum/showthread.php?t=9991 ? I think that answers most of your questions, since most frontends are associated uniquely to an OS.

It seems that the majority of players use Windows, even though the Mac and Linux (GCU+SDL+SDL2+X11) communities are not negligible.

Yeah, I was surprised by the strong Windows showing too.

I think most people just prefer to download a binary and start playing. If you want to play on Linux you have to clone the repository and build the executable. No need to be a programmer but way more technical. Installing directly from Ubuntu repositories isn't recommended as they still offer the 3.X.X version. Maybe they should upgrade to 4.2

Is any of you devs in touch with the Debian / Ubuntu team to get updates deployed? If there are no contacts with them, I can try to create one.

That's a good idea as it will be a lot easier to get new players on Linux. Updates will also be much easier since it won't be required to rebuild the game.

Magnate (former dev) was our Debian contact, although I have the impression that trying to get something into Debian quickly is not trivial.
