Running on Linux, right? it's 'angband -uName', where Name is the name of your character.

No, I'm running it on windows vista. -u<Name> gives me a file not found error on startup and the application crashes. Every command line switch i try to provide causes a crash in fact.

Try "angband <path>". The path may have to be the full path, I'm not sure.

As Takkaria says. If you're in the Angband directory you can just write a relative path for the argument to Angband:
angband lib\save\savefilename

Personally in windows I make a shortcut to angband.exe, where I change the properties so the target takes my savefile as argument.
