Tile lighting

Is it possible to alter the light/darkness of a floor/wall tile by code rather than having to create several versions of the same tile/saving them in separate tiles/files?

As of now, It seems the adam bolt tileset contains 3 versions of each type of wall/floor.

I think it's useful for the different tilesets to be have control over that - doing it in code wouldn't be so flexible. Do you think differently?

I wouldn't have any problems still making 3 versions, but if it was easier/possible doing it by code, then it could be done by code by setting each tiles brightness rather than calling upon 3 versions of the same tile depending on the lighting conditions?

Regard it as a non-important question, asked out of curiosity.
