Angband 3.1.1 available in Debian

Morning all,

Angband 3.1.1 (build 1626, the current one) is now available as an official Debian package: http://packages.debian.org/sid/angband. At the moment it's only built for i386 and amd64 architectures, but it should be autobuilt for the others over the next few days. In ten days time it should be available in testing/squeeze. It should also start appearing in Debian-based distros like *buntu pretty soon.

I've made an RPM using alien, but I haven't tested it as I don't use any RPM-based systems. It's at http://www.terminalarrogance.com/ang...626-1.i386.rpm - if you try it, please post here about whether or not it works on your system. EDIT: if you have problems related to the pre- or post-install scripts, try http://www.terminalarrogance.com/ang...pts-1.i386.rpm instead.

Anyone using a Linux distro which uses neither .deb nor .rpm packages, please let me know and I'll try to build a package for your system.

CC

Pav - any chance you could put these two links on the front page with the other links for 3.1.1?

Posted it as a news item.

Any guesstimate when the new package pops up in Ubuntu repository? As a fresh Ubuntu user (installed it two evenings back) I'm now interested in that.

Funny you should ask that - I was just having a look today. According to https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/angband there is nobody subscribed to the package, which I take to mean that there is currently no Ubuntu maintainer (this inference may be incorrect, but it's not clear where you find out who maintains an Ubuntu package). You could file a new Ubuntu bug asking them to sync the newest Debian version, but there has been no reply to the four already open bugs (one of which is asking about 3.1.0), so that's a little more evidence that angband is currently orphaned in Ubuntu. Maybe someone will pick it up now that it's alive again ...

EDIT: curiouser and curiouser. On 5th May 2006 takkaria himself seems to have provided a package for Dapper (3.0.6-1) and registered a project called Angband. But the later versions (up to 3.0.9b-3) seem to be maintained by Manoj (the previous Debian maintainer). At least that explains why it's the same as the previous Debian version. I'll check with Manoj whether he intends to package 3.1.1.1626 for Ubuntu. If not I guess the obvious person to do so is me, but it means I need to learn another whole load of packaging stuff, and my head is still spinning from the complexity of debianisation ... so it will take a little while, is what I'm saying. Sorry.

Ubuntu just copy it from Debian at the beginning of their dev cycles unless someone does it manually. I guess they'll pick up 3.1.1 in November or so, after 9.10 is out.
