End game question
Hi all,
Can someone remind me how the endgame works in Vanilla - I'm playing again for the first time in years and I can't remember if I'm allowed to try attacking Morgoth and recall or go upstairs if it's going badly? I seem to remember the upstair to lvl 99 disappears or something until you've killed him (ie you only get one go at attempting to kill him)? My guy can conjure stairs, I don't know if that helps or changes it. Cheers mbc |

There's no point of no return, so you can always run away if things go poorly. However, most people end up stockpiling consumables for the final fight, and if you use up a bunch of those before fleeing then you'll have a tough (and/or tedious) time restocking.

Ah ok, thanks.
I have another 'refresh my memory' query which I won't use up a new thread slot for, basically I want to know whether the armour class of a monster reduces the damage caused by a successful hit? The reason I ask is that it seems like I can get more damage from a dagger with multiple blows than say a broad sword, but I wonder if heavy armoured opponents would feel more pain (statistically) from the broad sword after a certain turning point of their AC (eg I picture the dagger glancing off the armour several times but the broad sword actually getting through). The same issue applies to using a short bow of extra shots relative to, say a crossbow. mbc |

Nope. The damage you do is the damage you do. A dagger is just as effective against a dragon as it is a street urchin. There isn't much similarity between how the player attacks and monster attacks function.
