That feeling when you step into DL 26, sense life and see The Mouth of Sauron at the top of your known monster list.

I just sat there and stared at him for a minute before reading a recall scroll.

And wouldn't you know it, I recall myself to the dungeon (L27) and read:

Omens of death haunt this place

No scary evil uniques within range - but I think I'll just read my Deep Descent and get down to 1500 where the gain stat potions are

Proud member of the chicken club, also still alive 10 DLvs Later. Still no teleport other wands though, getting scared. Also i'm trying out the new combat rules thing, are Criticals supposed to be super common? I swear ever other hit is getting either "Great" or "Superb".

Well, Still critting up a storm and I just found a pretty incredible weapon. Went from a 1d8 (+17,+12) doing 73 normal damage and with a powerful slay of 266 with 5 attacks, to 7d4 (+15,+20) doing 188 normal and 662 with a powerful slay with 5 attacks. Feels like that's alot more of a variation then the old system would've been. Also i noticed something i'm not sure is odd or not. For the longest time i was getting 2 attacks with every weapon. Dagger, 2 attacks. Maul, 2 attacks. Is that intended?

And Dead. Shouldn't have tried to take on Eol. My new weapon made me over confident

And i never found a second spell book for rangers. Such is Angband. Lot of fun though, not sure how i feel about the combat option. It did certainly make it more feasible to use the heavier weapons though.

*Facepalms* Well, I've been playing another ranger for the past few days. Got him to level 50 DLv 81 and was feeling pretty cocky about it. Having haste and digging spells is super convenient. I was raiding a vault with maeglin, and a pair of great wyrms, chaos and hell and was doing good, TO'd Maeglin, and drew the chaos wyrm into a anti-summoning corridor I'd dug while he was trying to get to me when i ran into something totally new to me. A group of like 10 A's walking through walls and acting like zepher hounds on crack. At first I figured, eh i can handle this, so i TO'd the wyrm and buckled in to fight. Bad idea. 5 turns later I'm better then half dead and totally surrounded and I panic. I read one of my scrolls of banishment on A's and kill myself with the backlash. Argh -,-
