3.4.1 Windows, cant find character dump
I started playing again and wanted to checkpoint my current character on the ladder but I am having trouble finding the character dump.
So I did capital C, then lower case f. The game says it successfully saved "Finar.txt" ... but I cant find the file anywhere! I looked in c:\Program Files (x86)\angband-v3.4.1\lib\user ... and basically every subfolder under lib but I cant find it. Anybody out there able to help me out? |

So that's a couple of hours of my life I wont get back...
I searched for the character dump "Finar.txt" in windows file explorer... it said it couldn't find it. I messed around with directory read/write permissions to no avail... I even uninstalled my antivirus software... nope. Finally I did a search for "angband" in file explorer and found files way down in this path: users/andrew/appdata/local/virtualstore/program files (x86)/angband-v3.4.1/lib/user/Finar.txt Can anyone explain what this "virtualstore" business is all about? Also, I am not sure why file explorer could find "angband" but not "Finar" ... I guess that would make too much sense. Anyway, character dump is uploaded... after all that this character better turn out to be a winner! |

no idea. My Angband has always ..
Why does the Angband forum' spellchecker not recognize the word "Angband" as a valid word? Anyway, my Angband has always been a simple folder. No idea what "virtual store" is or why you have it there.

Write attempts without explicit administrator rights are redirected to the "Virtual Store". You can avoid that problem by installing Angband in a different folder, for example "c:\Games\Angband". Unfortunately, the folder "appdata" is hidden; that's why a normal search doesn't include it. I don't know how to change this in current versions (it was possible in Windows7). And i'm surprised it found "Angband". |

Good answer, Werbaer. I'm glad someone more knowledgeable than me spoke up.
