Sangband and Oangband for Mac?
Hi all,
Looking around, I don't see ports of the current versions of Oangband or Sangband for OS X. I remember Bahman saying a year or so back that he was going to port O to the Mac, but that doesn't seem to ever have materialized; and I haven't seen an up-to-date Sangband port either. Am I wrong? Are these available? (And if not, is there anybody out there who'd like to gain everlasting glory by doing the job? Pretty please...?) |

If you read the download page of Sangband (http://runegold.org/sangband/downloads.htm), you'll note that "[The SDL port] also mostly works on Mac OS X, but some users report much better success than others. It shows the world in ASCII, extended fonts, or various kinds of graphics (your choice), plus offers sound, music, and multiple customizeable windows."
Further, if you read the text of /docs/compile.txt, you'll find the below text. I hope that helps you! You'll need to download some SDL libraries, as well. Joshua ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Macintosh ---------------------------------------------------------------------- (Fill in blank here.) OS X is basically OpenBSD, so the section "Graphical UNIX or UNIX-like system + GCC + SDL" above applies to at least some setups (including Xcode if I hear correctly). Graphical UNIX or UNIX-like system + GCC + SDL ---------------------------------------------- Compatability: - You need a graphical system with X11 and SDL, capable of showing at least 640x480 in 256 colors. SDL runs best on a relatively modern machine (600 MHz or better). Important files: /src/main-sdl.c; /src/Makefile.sdl Installation and setup instructions: - Read "/src/Makefile.sdl". Instructions (AFTER you install and set up libraries): - Run "make -fMakefile.sdl install" in the src directory. Notes: - To compile on OpenBSD, use "gmake" instead of make. |

Thanks for your reply!
Unfortunately, it's a sign of my computer illiteracy that I can't even figure out from that page which is the SDL port... and I'll be honest, I'm not optimistic about my ability to install the software to get it to run. Maybe when I have some time to sit down and figure it out... |

You'd have to download the source code, and download some SDL libraries (elsewhere, there's probably instruction on how to do this somewhere), and then follow the directions.
