Angband under X11

This is only relevant if you run under X-windows, using either -mx11, -mgtk or -msdl.

A Debian user has reported a bug about "a huge number of X requests". I assume he was talking about -mx11, but it's not certain.

If you play under X, have you ever noticed Angband making your system sluggish? If so, please post which version, which X desktop, and which angand invocation you used. Let me know as much as you can - whether it slowed down instantly, or reproducibly etc. Did quitting and reloading help, etc.

Thanks.

For me the GTK version runs slow as molasses. It is unusable for me.
This happens for trunk and 3.1.1 and i think it also happened in 3.0.9.

The sdl version hogs on cpu for a short time while i move a window that overlaps the sdl window (like opening my E-mail client, or if my browser sends a popup) or when I move a sdl subwindow. Those cpu loads show up in the X process in top.
Those are only short bursts so they don't really get in my way.

If i think about the behavior it might be that if you overlap a transparent window over angband sdl it might seriously cause trouble.

In this case it could be X Screensaver drawing a window over top of the Angband window.

I used to have a problem on my Asus Eee (with the original IceWM vendor setup), same symptoms when running Angband, but only when maximized. (I moved my banding to the big PC since then.)
