Dumbest Kill? Chasing Smeagol for 3,000 Turns.

I just spent 3,000 turns hunting down and killing Smeagol with my half-troll priest on DL 4. The jerk stole my (+11, +16) iron shots of wounding that I had just spent 1,000 au for. I had almost no ranged options, so I'd bless myself and hit him followed by him teleporting all over the map and forcing me to track him down with Detect Evil. I finally cornered him when he stole all my money and he couldn't teleport anymore. That was the dumbest fight I've ever experienced in Angband.

What are some of your dumbest "successful" moments?

It was in a turncount competition. On the starting file, the bm had 2 interesting items that the initial budget could buy, one or the other but not both. I couldnt decide, so I spent a couple hundred turns farming townsfolk to buy both.

Ah Smeagol. I spent a long time trying to catch him with my human warrior but lack of infravision just meant he was too hard to catch; tried stupid stuff like laying out arrows and things to tempt him by, then jumping him when he picked them up. But he always just got away!

Finally ran out of everything and had to go back to town. Got a few True Seeing and Infravision potions, went back down and made rather short work of him. = o (Oh say that was in my last year's Christmas episode, hah ^ _^ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuYmR7lpWis&t=7809s ).

One of my recent games I missed him until he was summoned by Morgoth.

Seriously, what was Morgoth thinking?

Maybe Morgoth wanted to take care of Smeagol himself in hopes of getting the One Ring to drop?
