Question [3.0.9b] clvl 39 Half-Elf Rogue - advice on diving deeper?

After years of savefile scumming, this is my most successful non-cheating char,

see the dump here:
http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=8516

I spent ages at stat-gain depth and have just dropped down to 2350' after gaining poison resistance. Thanks to some ridiculous drops at that depth I now have Anduril, Anarion (sustain all stats), and am handling monsters pretty easy at this depth.

My question is, are there nasty things that I am unprepared for at deeper depths? I don't have Resist chaos, shards, nether, nexus, etc... I'm not sure what the next step for this char should be.

Any thoughts appreciated.

I'm of the school (and we are legion on this forum) that advises plunging down to the bottom in a frantic and constant state of paranoid detection. Some rules of thumb: consider swapping out rings of damage for rings of con, only take on those things you are sure to defeat, and when in doubt, flee. The rest of your kit looks fine, except you don't have a _telSelf, which is a must when you don't have rBlind or rConfuse, which you don't.

You don't need those other resists. You do need more CON. Wear a big RoCON ring instead of the second RoDam, at least until you know what monsters to watch out for.

The real trick is getting from where you are now to dl 80, where all sorts of goodies await. Try not to waste too much time exploring in the meantime, and get in the habit of expecting monsters too tough to fight.

Also, don't carry around all that ego armor for resale. It is slowing you by 4; if you must sell stuff for gold, stick to things that weigh less than 5lbs each. (Dungeon books, jewelry, maybe the occasional weapon of Gondolin.)

There are always nasty things. The deeper you go, the nastier they get.

Being prepared doesn't always mean having a full set of resits. Good detection, avoidance and escape are crucial from now until bottom of dungeon.

If you die at current depth, it's likely to be of boredom, frustation or inattention. That probably won' teach you much about how to play deeper.

Diving is not the same as taking undue risks.

This char may not turn out to be a winner for you, but could teach you how to refine your playstyle.

The RNG is a cruel mistress. At least give her a chance to kill Tom III in a new and exciting way .

Thanks all for the tips, I had already decided to ditch the heavy junk for resale shortly before the second reply, figuring it probably wasn't necessary since I already have tons of money.

I didn't realize rings of CON were so good - obviously more hp is better, but I thought I'd be giving up a lot without the Rings of Damage. Since I have two +10 rings and get 5 hits/round, instead that losing 100 points per round (not sure if damage bonuses are calculated this way).

I'm definitely going to try to move away from the "kill everything that moves" strategy and focus more on avoidance though....

Thanks again

You are giving up a lot of melee by doing that, but it's not worth it when the biggest nether breathers do 550 damage. 540 is just a bit too fragile for wandering around in unfamiliar territory. (Don't bother with a small ring though +4 or better only.)

And a little deeper, you should find other sources of CON. You picked a tough race to go deep with.

They stack, so there is no excuse for carrying just one of them.
