[FA] 0.3.6's Weapons of Angband ?!

I'm pondering if I am going to use one of the "of Angband" weapons which got some nice changes in 0.3.6.
Yet I'm unsure which one to use, and how some things work concerning them in general:

- Do the (-x) modifiers depend on the hit dice of the weapon? Or is it only the RNG having fun with me? Naturally, I would go with the axe with this dwarf, but ...
- Is (-4) to DEX, CON and Stealth too much to use the axe?
- Why does the rapier 1 point more damage than the smallsword?
- What do you experienced winners think about using those weapons in general?

It is the other way around actually. The pval (-x) determines the number of chances the weapon has of gaining an additional dice side.

This isn't going to be the most useful of replies, but it depends what that -4 actually means to your particular char.

Because it has a higher skill, you will get more criticals and hence a higher average per blow.

They can be great once enchanted up - particularly if you find a telepathic one!

So it's quite unlikely I'll ever see an axe with (-2) only ...

That why I linked to the char dump, obviously not obviously enough
A dwarven ranger does not have that much stealth to begin with, but it worked ok in some occasions where I really would have hated it if it didn't
What do you think?

Oh, this is figured in?
So as soon as I get them to (+9,+x), the slightly heavier sword should be better, right? (The axe would be much better, but at a price ... )

Woot !!! ... completely random ability .. guess I have to pay some more attention if the squelcher drops some {worthless} weapons for me

Thanks !

The pval (-x) is a random number from 1-4, so it is very likely that you will see a -2 axe. However it will more likely be 2d7 rather than the 2d9 version you have found.

I did see it - but it is all down to your personal preferences. How many HP are you comfortable with? How much stealth do you feel safe with?

I don't believe weapon weight makes any difference to criticals in O combat. I'd therefore go for the lighter of two similar weapons in the hope of getting an extra blow quicker.

Correct. The only factors are to-hit (weapon and player) and whether a monster is sleeping (this increases with level, and is better for rogues and assassins).

Wait ... I just noticed the axe (which I finally chose to use .. maybe just because its fits a dwarven best ) does not have any additional ability .. looks like the RNG rolled some intrinsic again .. or is the additional dice from that random ability?

Yes, that will have been what happened.

Somehow a Weapon of Angband {PLITE} seems, well, wrong.

Yes, but I was just working within the bounds of what was already there, rather than excluding an option from random powers just for this particular ego.
