tenser's and speed +10 is enough until the endgame. It's rarely desirable to wear two speed rings. Anyway, with tenser's the game should really speed up; you should be able to kill thunder and perplexity wyrms with ease, along with all
Demons except balrogs.

Stay away from big electricity breathers, since you don't want to lose rods of tele other. Same for fire breathers until you find narya (rsn).

Well I went down stairs at 4800' into a room that looked similar to this:

You can imagine that i'm happy that I didn't choose to disconnect the stairs.

I thought the player always got the first move while descending down, no matter what ? Or is that NPPAngband only.

No. That is a (desirable) feature of some variants.

I'm not sure that's true even in NPP. But NPP does always drop you in a relatively safe place.

Some monsters have a SLEEP flag. That's misleading actually- it doesn't mean they are guaranteed to be asleep, it just means that they are guaranteed not to breathe as their first action. This is one of the reasons ESP is so valuable.

Note that hounds don't have that flag.

I didn't die, I was able to get out. I found a couple of wands of drain life and dragon breath. These seem to be pretty good items, i may keep them with me for awhile.
