i'm not sure if i ever did ask this before - but i sure meant to.

Q: if a mob that can pick up items, picks up an item before i am aware of that item, and i kill the mob later .. will the item say "dropped by X mob" or "found on the dungeon floor" ?

the reason for this question is that, let's say, i am on a LF 7-8 floor. A small mob (grave wight) just dropped a Rod Of Speed.

Now, the rod says "dropped by a grave wight".

A Rod Of Speed is also the kind of item that would generate a level feeling of 7-8 at my depth.

If i can know that this little bugger picked it up, i then know i already own the -8 item and therefore do not need to hang around and get rekd by the 7- mobs.
(which i already killed because i am OP but that's irrelevant)

i am just so ever slightly tipsy so forgive me please if we already did this, but right now i do not remember.

Found on the dungeon floor.

The item code tells you how the item was actually generated and ignores what happened since. So if it says “dropped by” a monster it didn’t contribute to your level feeling.
