Can't he also generate lava from fire breath? My guess is that you stepped on the lava tile and got incinerated.

Except there are no messages to that effect, and in any case it doesn't do nearly 399 damage
The only explanation is that he took full fire damage (no resistance), but I can't see why that should be. |

I've been informed there's a bug... (related to a different cursed item I was wearing - lightning vulnerability) |

Quote:
There was a bug in 4.2.1 where when a worn item had a vulnerability to an element, the equipment slot number of the item was recorded instead of the element. So in this case, a vulnerability to electricity (element 1) was found on the right hand ring (equipment slot 2), which the bug translated into a vulnerability to fire (element 2). The resistance calculation says that single resistance + vulnerability = no resistance, so the fire breath (of a bit under 800) was taken at full strength. Note that without the bug a fire breath would have done about 230, so not fatal; and an electricity breath of similar strength would have done nothing, because immunity + vulnerability = immunity.

On the upside, 4.2.2 has much better Blackguard, and a few other spell tweaks. The big downside to 4.2 is balrogs. There are about a million on every level after DL 95. And they bore through rock from the other side of the dungeon.

Is 4.2.2 ready for prime time? I'd heard reports it was slow so I'm waiting to upgrade...

I believe that was fixed, and it only affects you if you play with wide tiles.

Well, it is better than 4.2.1 (some bug fixes, as I guess you're aware). Of course 4.2.3 will be better still...
