Request: Change text on enchantment

This isn't a big deal at all, but it's something that's always bothered me.

When you enchant any piece of equipment you get the following message:

'The xxx glows'

If the enchantment fails you then get:

'The enchantment failed'

Why not have:

'The xxx glows' only if the enchantment succeeds and 'The enchantment failed' only when it fails? I don't know the history behind this, but I don't see what purpose the glowing serves beyond telling you what piece of equipment you attempted to enchant.

I think having "The XYZ glows brightly" only if it works is good, but I do think putting the item name into the failure message would be important--otherwise you could waste a bunch of scrolls trying to enchant a +15/+15 sword, for instance.

Maybe "The XYZ glows brightly" and "The XYZ resists enchantment"?

"resists enchantment" may imply, especially to a new player, that enchantment is impossible for that item

maybe "you fail to enchant XYZ" is clearer?

It also might suggest that XYZ might resist *disenchantment*. Hariolor's right: "You fail to enchant XYZ" is a simple statement of fact; it says nothing about why it failed. "The XYZ resists enchantment" *does* discuss why it failed. It's a true statement for an artifact...but not for the typical case of trying to raise +5 armor to +6 armor, and it just didn't take. I don't know that we need 2 different failure messages...one for artifacts, one for non-artifacts....

Is this true? I have successfully enchanted artifacts, but their plus values were less than 10 eg the to hit on glaive of pain. I think the resistance is just due to the plus value being above 10

Artifacts have an extra coin-flip test to avoid enchanting (in addition to the standard difficulty of enchanting items). This goes with their innate ability to resist being disenchanted (60% of the time).

Ah. Ok thanks. I did not know that. I just thought it was the RNG being itself, but I was able to enchant a few other artifacts that were below +9.
