Yeah, Silstreamer/Debo's Sil plays on Youtube are awesome, immensely helpful.
On the same video list, the beefcake/artistry and the protection vids are smith-based builds.

Thanks, but as a fair warning, I wouldn't really take any of my smithing videos as good examples of how to be a "pure smith". The protection-start and stealth archer series are both 1.0.2, and smithing has changed quite a bit since then. The artistry start is a good example of how to use smithing to get a strong start, but it doesn't transition well into pure smithing builds imo.

TBH I really can't deal with smithing anymore, it's an interesting mechanic in Sil but the min-maxiness and analysis-paralysis is just mega not fun for me. I'd rather just play based on what the game tosses my way now.

Having said that, I am totally open to casting games from other players that use smithing-heavy builds, and I should soon have access to a bunch of ttyrecs of a variety of different games, so hopefully I can do a pure smith series sometime soon.

I tend to start all my smiths with artistry these days. It makes the start of the game so much easier and quicker.

See, further evidence that I am the wrong person to do a video series on smithing

Next episode is up. I've picked up clouded's old Edain Hador run that I never finished.

Awesome. Love the vids.

What's the plan for your own next series?

What about showing off some other build types, like the next most 'stable', or maybe some interesting ones that you've had some success with?

Maybe a fear causing singer of some sort?

I probably won't be casting any of my own dudes for a while, now that I have my hands on a lot of recorded games. The reason is that

a) I don't really have time to practice a weird build to the point where I can play it reliably and not die to billions of orcs at 300' and then cast it

b) Most other people who are playing these recorded games are wayyyyyy better than me and I think there's a lot to learn by how they play.

I guess I could record my own ttyrecs and then record videos of the interesting ones downstream, but for now I'd like to highlight some other players and build that I would basically never pull off on my own

I can't really think of a "next most stable" build that I could run, even. It might be fun to do a christmas special though, using vanilla Sil and presents!! MarvinPA has no soul and no fun so he removed christmas from mpa-sil

Edit: Thanks for the positive feedback and the ideas The fear-causing singer is neat but I'd definitely have to practice it before I figure out a reasonable approach to doing it!

If anyone (presumably in US) wants to get interviewed, this came across my NPR Facebook feed

Quote:
An NPR reporter is looking to interview people who like watch "let's play" videos about video games on YouTube, the kind of videos where people play a game and offer commentary as they go along. Is that you? If so, email us at nprcrowdsource@npr.org with the subject line "Let's Play."
I looked at the comments and everyone's talking about Minecraft videos...

e: NPR is National Public Radio, i.e about the closest thing we have to real news over here...
