question about playing on a chromebook
Greetings, all -
My son (age 12) has just started playing 4.2.3 on his Chromebook, but neither he nor I can figure out how to start a new @ without quitting/suiciding his current @. I play on a Mac, where I use the menu bar to start a new character at the title screen, but there doesn't seem to be a similar option on the Chromebook. I should note that my 55-yr-old self is not particularly tech-savvy, and my searches through the in-game help files and the manual haven't proved fruitful. So any help would be much appreciated. (I note in passing that his High-Elf Mage found a !Experience on dl2 or 3 in one of his first runs ![]() ![]() |

I use a Chromebook. I think there a three options from a Chromebook.
1) Playing the android version. I suspect this is what he is doing. If so, the command line options might not be helpful. 2) Using the Chromebook Linux subsystem (A Linux container running on ChromeOS) and installing the Angband package (I think this is Debian based Linux distro). If I recall correctly, the Debian package is a pre 4.x version of Angband (looks like 3.5.1) 3) Using the Chromebook Linux subsystem to build and install Angband from source code, which is what I do. The advise from backwardsEric will definitely work for option 3. Not sure about options 2 or 3. If you need some help with option 3 let me know. |

By the by, I was pleasantly surprised to see my son take an interest in the game in the first place - he usually prefers more action/graphic-based games, e.g. Apex Legends. Thanks again. |

I forgot to mention a fourth Chromebook option - playing on angband.live .
But if you want to run multiple simultaneous characters that might not be an option, unless you are OK creating multiple logins, but even then I don't think the monster memory is shared, unless you ask Gwarl for some behind the scenes help. |

A profile let you use a different savefile and set of keymaps. To create a new one go to Edit and set new names for profile and savefile. |

As a hacky method, if Chromebook lets you rename directories, you could just rename the save directory. ^_^
