Options that you think should be on (off) by default

What options are there that you always set (unset)?
What options do you think should be on (off) by default with a fresh install?

I'm going to put my vote for easy_alter and easy_open to be on by default.

Erm ... Takkaria did this pretty comprehensively back in 3.0.8 or so. Not that we should re-examine it, but don't be surprised if there isn't a flood of responses, 'cos most of the easy ones have been done (and removed).

This isn't about removing options, it's about (potentially) changing some options from default off to default on (or vice versa).

auto pick up (on)

EDIT: per Donald, auto center (on) - Does anyone (non-small device) play with this turned off?

I'd like to see randarts as a yes/no during character creation, rather then being in the option menu.

squelch_worthless: ON

and I always turn on autocenter and turn off the audible bell. I *hate* the audible bell.

I agree w/ Buzzkill that randarts probably ought to be a prompt at birth, mostly because birth options are finicky about being reset b/w games - sometimes yes, sometimes no. I'd apply this to disconnected stairs, but people probably pick a preference and stick to it, rather than toggle it all the time the way they do randarts.

I hate it when I write to people what I see on the screen and then don't see it at all on their screens.

A lot of those options are controversial:
view_granite_lite (hate)
view_yellow_lite (don't care for; prefer hilite_player)
show_piles (don't like)
birth_ai_packs (prefer it)

birth_disconnected_stairs is probably not a good default setting for new players; don't know about birth_ai_learn.

Map remembers perma and torch lit
use special colors for everything
disturb on viewable monster
change player color and hit point warning at >=50%
I always check these to be sure they are set to my liking

I leave auto-center off.
