angband/rougelike game called Doom?

Hello everyone,

I have been searching forever for this game, I cant find if for the life of me. I played an Angband like game (Moria I think) as well as a game called DOOM when I was growing up.

I played on my friend's father's microvax, he had dumb terminals wired all throughout the house.

Anyway, this game pre-dates the 3D verson of DOOM, this is not the ascii version of that game (DoomRL by Kornel Kisielewicz). It was quite deep and well implemented. I think the eventual goal was to kill the queen of the aliens way deep down in the dungeon (which was really some sort of office building or something?)

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has heard of this game?

Are you thinking of Mission: Thunderbolt aka Doomsday 2000? You kill the queen of the aliens in the sequel, and it's kind of office-building-like...

This has been my absolute favourite "roguelike" for as long as I can remember. It was one of the first I played too. A bit buggy in places but so so smoothly implemented. I wrote a bunch of spoilers for that at some point, I wonder where they ended up? I don't think I ever published them. I remember loving using ResEdit to look at all the objects resources, many of which never made it into the final game...

If it is what you're thinking of, I'm exited to have finally met another person who's heard of it!

Holy crap thats it!

A quick google search shows me that it was commercialized and even had a basic graphical UI put on top of it.

Any idea if you can get it anywhere today?

Home of the underdogs used to have the windows port of it - but it doesn't seem to be loading for me anymore. I used to have a copy of the mac port (pre-OS X) with a "Best of Casady & Greene" 5-game pack which I could probably upload - but that's not a whole lot of use on most computers these days...

I've been meaning to try to find the original author Dave Scheifler and see if he'd be willing to release the source code now that C&G had gone out of business. It's a shame to see such great games left be the wayside.

There was a recent thread on this at rgrm. Apparently there's something going on at Temple of the Roguelike as well.

Up until 2007 it appears it was possible to order Mission Thunderbolt for both Mac and PC (and the sequel, Mission Firebolt, for Mac)... wonder if that address could still be used to contact the original author?

Never heard of that game, but it looks interesting...

Underdogs link worked for me, it's just slow as hell, but download is unavailable due to file being broken or something. Funny, they call it "most likely the rarest roguelike game in existence"...

Someone gave me another link a long time ago when I was talking about this: link. Not sure if it still works.

I tried the 1-800 number on the old AOL page, and such a number doesn't exist anymore. I'll keep looking for the author.

You could try contacting this guy (email at bottom of the page) - he looked like he worked at DEC with Dave and [used to?] play Dungeons and Dragons weekly with him...

I got interested in the game, and after some googling and archive.org-ing I found that you can download Mission: Thunderbolt here: http://www.juegomania.org/descargas/pc/9145

The page is in spanish and you need to register to be able to download (google translate helps), but it's free to register and download. The game also worked surprisingly well with Wine under Linux, so it should work with recent windows versions too.
