BOOM!!! Angband in UNDER 3 hrs!!!!

.....years ago I remember seeing someone on this forum saying a speedrun of angband could be probably done in less than 3 hrs!..... and my thought was NO WAY....
that was back in the days when it typically took me 2 days to finish the game.

Now.... I give you Angband in less than 3 hrs!
You MUST get lucky to do this. The most important combo being Arcane power and clone monster. In this game I managed to clone enough eye drujs to get level 49 by the 2hr mark.
Even then you this is useless without enough speed or mana!
I had 6 potions of mana to take on both Sauron and Morgoth!

No real reason, but Im not sure the people who watch that channel on a regular basis would have a lot of interest in an angband speedrun!

Maybe I should introduce them to the game, then make the speedrun public.

I agree, you should do it as a "and now for something completely different" episode on your channel.

second speed run under 3 hrs.

This one was VERY different. Only level 40 on completing the game!

Not enough HP to take a mana storm from morgoth.... and very slightly slower than him!!

A lot of luck still needed though. Bizarrely I had a game the other day where i found a ring of speed +9 at 200ft..... but couldnt find other key items quickly enough and in the end it took almost 5 hrs!

ESSENTIAL items, Arcane control. Without dimension door you cannot descend quickly enough. You have to go down 100 levels in 180 mins. 2mins per level on average!
Clone monster. Without it you cannot quickly get to level 35 and get dimension door.

Yeah skipping the con potion farm was the step I knew could improve the time - I think I posted about it earlier.

So how would a rogue compare to this ?

Key item would be 1-2 wands of annihilation to kill the end bosses with, xp potions to level up, diving can be accomplished with ?deep descent and the rogue's trump card is of course item detection which puts him in a position to find all this more easily. Also, a good weapon to kill things with is probably harder to find than mana bolt. My guess is that rogue cant beat mage, but I am not sure.
