Best guide for diving with spellcasting classes in pre 4.0 versions?

Title says it all. I usually play very conservatively, but I'm looking to try the high risk diving fast method. I am currently bouncing around in v3.0--v3.5.

3.5 is identical to 4.0 in game play.
4.0 was entirely an entering release.
3.1,3 2,3.3 are unbalanced.
3.0 is harder. Useful ego objects are far less common when you get deep. But the spellers are essentially unchanged, except ALL classes get full object detection, from either a spell or a rod.

Not a guide so much as a series of journals, but TMA's LP archive was very helpful to me. His screenshots show he made them using v3.5:

I agree thats a great LP. I will periodically go and reread it just for fun. Thats also where I picked up the *Destruction* before Morgoth trick to keep LOS as obscured as possible.

They have a TOME2 LP thats also entertaining, though that one is a bit less informative, since he set out to show just how badly you can break that game.

you should try early 4.0 dev releases, it's lolsome to fine a cloak with +14 Spd +14 CON.
