Help with dubtrain sound files please
Hi all,
Some time ago a guy called Dubtrain wrote some cool new sounds for Angband and put them up for download at www.dubtrain.com/angband. When I try to use them, I get no sound, and two different types of error messages whenever I trigger a sound effect: angband: Unrecognized sound file type: Invalid argument angband: Complex WAVE files not supported: Invalid argument All the sound files are in lib/xtra/sound and they are all .wav files. 'file' tells me they are "RIFF (little-endian) data, WAVE audio". Does anyone else use this sounds? Did you ever see/solve these errors?? There's nothing on dubtrain's site about these errors, and I presume he used them perfectly successfully. (He wrote them for 3.1.0, but sound handling hasn't changed since, and I get the same errors with 3.1.x versions.) |

If you're doing this in SDL, I think maybe the wavs don't work there. I transformed all the files to .mp3 - largely for size - and maybe did some tweaking to make them work (particularly in Windows, IIRC). FA currently has this setup, so it should be easy enough to put in to V. I would offer to do it myself except that I'm (a) playing O and (b) going to be pretty much AFK for a week from Sunday.

I downloaded the soundpack and opened some of them in Audacity; they seem to work fine. So at the very least, if there are format issues, Audacity could be used to fix them. Didn't try using them in Angband though, since I only have a laptop keyboard handy (and don't feel like learning the roguelike keyset right now).

Edit: Seems to be working fine with Dubtrains original sound.cfg as well (tested a few sounds)

EDIT: yes - on WinXP I just unzip the 3.2 download from rephial, unzip dubtrain's sounds into lib/xtra/sound, and everything Just Works. Oh dear. Last edited by Magnate; December 31, 2010 at 09:30. |

Thank you. I converted all the WAVs to oggs and they work fine. I have now finished the Debian packaging for 3.2, including Dubtrain's sounds, so I will offer those for upload to Debian now.
