Learning....
So, I'm trying to edit a variant of Angband called Kamband. It's pretty decent, but has some major flaws in the code. The Arena glitches the game badly enough that you can't complete the game, and maxing otu the turn counter in your status screen crashes the game (Which I learned during my battle with MORGOTH! *Facedesk.*)
Thing is..I'm good enough at using the "Edit" files, but I have no real experience with coding. Anyone have any advice? (I'd also like to take out the "Monster Rooms" in thetowns, and make artifacts much less common.) |

Basically if you are only trying to tweak a few things then you are in with a pretty good shot even if you don't have any experience coding - as long as you are willing to persevere. The first thing you need to do is confirm that you can compile the Kamband code from source - and have it run properly afterwards. You want to use a compiler that has decent debugging facilities. I recommend putting up the code to somewhere with Subversion and ticket tracking facilities. (SourceForge is the obvious one, but they like true Open Source licenses and the 'Angband License' apparently doesn't count).
