HTW already has had a ring of speed +8 dropped by a naga on DL20, and then an Arkenstone (with FA) by Orfax on the same level.
update - still alive, found a potion of STR, lost a point of STR to a Intellect, found a potion of Contemplation, lost a point of STR, found a potion of Brawn, lost a point of INT.

i admit that i am being a tad presumptuous here, because i have not *yet* as of this writing, beaten Morgoth with my soon to be posted here HTW.
Just a brief argument for bigger house options; i had a lovely character with all resists and 450 vs evil @ 22 Spd, i recalled before the final fight, did some heavy tinkering - which includes laying on the floor every item i stored, in order of type, and i now have 851 vs evil @ 26 Spd, having only lost HL. I did save some items to slot in when i could, so it's not to say it's unplayable as it is. But a just-a-tad bigger house would be a big change. Not that i will ever see it, of course, being that i am stuck for life on 4.1.3 but hey, for the next generations. Advantages of being a HTW is that you slouch through the levels, picking upo a ton of crap. I went down with 20 Heal, 24 *Heal, 8 Rune, 7 MBan, 20 Banish, and full to the brim of Berserk, Hero and Prayer. Poor guy didn't stand a chance, had him dead in 1 minute of game. Half-Troll Paladin:
Pathetic damage vs Evil but otherwise solid all-rounder. Traps were a problem. Failing spells was a given, i didnt even put any points into WIS at the start and didnt bother learning a single spell until CL12 or so. I found Wrath Of God on DL100 and didn't use a single spell of it, despite looking for it for hours. Code:

three for three, ladies and gentlemen. I have come up with a brilliant way of picking a character name that is so ingenious, it almost amazes me - each character is named after one artifact from the previous. This rogue, i again didn't put any points in INT, no point in trying to cast spells with no mana and 50% fail. My very first cast was actually TO as i was already CL33 and looking to teleport away a big dragon mob but had not found a wand of TO. And, i never did, eventually i found Annihilate and ignored all the other wands, never identified TO. Easy win as Wormtongue on DL22 dropped a main gauche +8,+11 of +2 blows. Also found two rings of damage +10. Had 200+ dps, potions of Spd, and a light with +3 DEX, not much that can stop me short of a AMHD. Also, ran with some non-caster gloves because LOL, who cares when you got +11,+11 instead. Code:

when you need to cast Acid Bolt (11% fail) nine times to fire twice.
on the plus side, i just found (on DL27) a longbox x5 +24 dmg, with my not-a-ranger character. har har har. And my previous also-not-a-ranger had a ring of +2 shots. pure comedy. oh and now i found a amulet of wisdom +5 with my not-actually-a-priest.

After accidentally walking my mage into a dracolich's nether breath, i decided to change class for a bit - casting one million magic missiles can get boring. 2 false starts, died at CL1. After that, i have no shame in admitting that i "accidentally" spent ages killing breeders. Life is hard. I did a ton of xp. If it works, it ain't stupid. Pretty easy early game, difficult late game. Had one decent DPS weapon but, on finding just so much speed, i decided to do a pure casting build. The Morgoth fight was loooong and difficult. I could have maybe used Annihilation (from the spell, not the wand) but i have no experience with it and didnt want to run out of mana. I burned through around 15 mana potions, and a few *Heal, but i only had 2 Banish and 1 MBan. Morgoth's summons were brutal - Ancalong, Tarrasque, Arien, Carcharot, Huan, all at the same time. And a black reaver nearly took me out, i went under 100hp - not an experience i would recommend to anyone. Still .. 60 speed. It's pretty nice. And rods of Slow Monster, of course. Code:
