Died to a typo. The longer the game, the more likely to happen. I guess I'm not diving fast enough.

I pick up. separately, a couple of scrolls of enchant to-dam and carry them for over 20 dlvls just in case I pick up a launcher with low +dam. I finally find one, a heavy xbow (x4) (+4, +2). I read them both and neither works.

Note to self -- use them when you find them.

HAHAHAHAHA - I use them up on ammo.

Is it time to debilitate?

I picked up a couple of mushrooms of debility I was planning to save for fighting Sauron, but I just picked up rPoison and there is a Swamp Wyrm nearby. I cannot do enough damage to kill it without restoring my mana.

So do I burn a precious consumable to kill it? If so, should I plan to use a mushroom of debility or the potion of rMana instead?

You lack resist confusion and any potions to cure confusion. So you had better avoid great swamp wyrms for now!

Mushrooms of Debility only restore part of your mana, so the !rMana is more valuable. You may be able to kill it without using any restore -- Swamp Wyrms aren't too tough.

If I believed that, I might as well give up. The big change is that I picked up the staff of teleportation at DL59. I laugh at confusion spell attacks now! There were a few times in the 40s and 50s where confusion wore off just a couple of turns before I would have been dead. It helps to have a good saving throw.

Life is dangerous when you dive hard. Being unable to avoid risks, and forced to choose which risks to take, is what makes it so interesting.

I cannot afford to melee. With so few hp, every couple rounds I will be low enough to die to a resisted breath. Not nearly enough mana for 3500 damage of orbs plus extra mana for heals.

I now think I really ought to save them for uniques. But I'm waffling.

The code appears to say full restore.
Code:
                case EF_SHROOM_DEBILITY:
                {
                        int stat = one_in_(2) ? A_STR : A_CON;

                        if (p_ptr->csp < p_ptr->msp)
                        {
                                p_ptr->csp = p_ptr->msp;
                                p_ptr->csp_frac = 0;
                                msg_print("Your feel your head clear.");
                                p_ptr->redraw |= (PR_MANA);
                                *ident = TRUE;
                        }

                        (void)do_dec_stat(stat, FALSE);

                        *ident = TRUE;
                        return TRUE;
                }

I don't suppose there are any xbow bolts on your current level? That +Shots Xbow might do the trick, although 3100HP is a tough hill to climb.

It's a damn shame that your GDSM doesn't activate for poison resistance. That would be a huge help.

That's more than the appearance of a full restore. I wuz wrong; and those shrooms are worth a lot more than I had thought.

Current level? My supply of bolts for the *entire game* thru DL66 was 24 Bolts (1d5) (-2,-2) , and I foolishly dumped those once when I was short of slots figuring I'd find replacements. So long as I am complaining about consumables, I was CL 29 at DL 50 and had only collected *seven* different flavors of potions up to that point in the game. I'm diving hard, but I should be killing enough stuff to get more consumables than that!

I decided to save the shrooms for Saruman or worse.

Now attempting to clear a greater vault at DL 70. I was thinking about abusing my ?MassBanish until I realized that with my pathetic hp it would kill me to read it.

I'll ask later so you can start thinking now -- should I pick up a randart lance (7d8) with slay demon and nothing else? For the moment I'm better of with my blessed rapier (3d6) getting 3 blows a round, so long as my ring of acid is in effect.
