LCC4 progress

I started a hobbit priest who is now clvl 10 on dlvl 5 at turn 115536, dumped on the ladder as LCC4. I decided to start this thread as a way to help out other players of priests, particularly those weak in strength like my hobbit. Attached below is the character dump at promotion to level 10. The junk at home is stashed because the alchemy shop failed to stock identify scrolls.
The first thing which I did was to sell the scroll of recall and the potions of heal wounds, so that I would have enough money to buy a long bow, arrows, and armor. I rolled three characters before I got a fourth whose kit satisfied me. His stats were HP10, SP2, AC12, hitting 5, shooting 7.5, equipped with a mace, long bow, 6 torches, cloak, small metal shield, iron helm, and leather sandals. He carried a beginner's handbook, 4 rations of food, and 96 arrows. He went to dlvl 1 @741 turns.
Dlvl 1 : promoted clvl 2 @3284 turns, HP15, SP4, 6 monsters killed by shooting with arrows. I will not repeat that shooting remark, because he always shoots at range if he can, melees as a last resort, runs and shoots if chased.
Dlvl 1 : promoted clvl 3 @10029 turns, HP20, SP6, 28 killed.
Dlvl 1 : promoted clvl 4 @17823 turns, HP25, SP7, 55 killed.
Soon afterwards, I had cleared all dlvl 1. I had one potion, three scroll stacks, a ring, and a short bow (+0,+0). I went back to town, and found Farmer Maggot waiting for me! Hoorah! I killed him @19603 turns and got a lance - just what a strength 14 hobbit needs. Oh well... I sold the scrolls and potion, bought two scrolls of identify, and identified the ring and lance. The ring was a cursed teleportation (dropped), and the lance was (+4,+1). I sold the lance for 808 gold. I upgraded my armor kit and bought a single scroll of recall and a shovel. There was no prayer book except beginner's handbook in the temple, so I bought all 5 potions heroism. I bought all general store arrows, then used the remaining money to buy a scroll identify. At that point I had : studded leather armor, leather shield, leather gloves, iron shod boots (other equipment same and AC now 23), beginner's handbook, 7 rations food, 5 potions heroism, 1 scroll identify, 1 scroll word of recall, 7 torches, a shovel, and 87 arrows. I calculated that at a 35% chance of breaking, I had 87+57+37+24+15+9+6+4+2+1 shots from my arrows. That would take me quite far. I went back to dlvl 1 @26090 turns.
I want to interject a word of wisdom here regarding carrying potions of cure wounds in the early game. They cost more compared to their effectiveness than heroism. So when I check the mon-info spoiler file to see if I am outclassed, I am prepared mentally to quaff a potion of heroism if I am forced to melee. It heals 10 injury from the first combat round and increases to-hit by 10, thus improving the chance that you will win by quite a heap for low level characters.
I cleared dlvl 1 without promotion, and went to dlvl 2 on turn 33374.
Dlvl 2 : promoted clvl 5 @35088 turns, HP28, SP9, 91 killed.
Dlvl 2 : promoted clvl 6 @45424 turns, HP31, SP11, 106 killed. Turn 48365 killed Grip. Turn 51097 went to dlvl 3.
Dlvl 3 : promoted clvl 7 @56813 turns, HP37, SP12, forgot to write down total killed. Killed Fang @58692.
Dlvl 3 : promoted clvl 8 @70156 turns, HP41, SP14, forgot to write down total killed. Only 3 arrows left and level cleared - read scroll word of recall (WoR).
I bought prayer book words of wisdom, sold potions and scrolls, but there were no scrolls identify in the alchemy shop. I was carrying a cap which pseudo identified as excellent. I used my one scroll of identify on it - a cap of seeing with resist blindness and see invisible! Hoorah! I wore it and sold the iron helm. I bought two WoR scrolls and 99 arrows With the gold left over I bought/sold scrolls and potions in the alchemy shop (from most expensive until least) until I had identified (according to the object memory) all of the available ones. I recalled to dlvl 3 (166 monsters killed) @71763 turns with 150 gold, first 2 prayer books, 2 rations of food, 1 potion speed, 4 potions heroism, 2 scrolls WoR, 2 torches, a shovel, and 102 regular arrows. I had stashed in my home a wand, a robe {magical}, and two main gauche {magical} because there were no scrolls identify available. I have identified 1 ring, 8 potions, and 15 scrolls...
Dlvl 3 : Found and killed Smeagol @80027 turns - I used 2 potions of speed (long fight), 2 potions heroism, and shot (7.5) him to death, even at point blank range instead of melee (5). I gained a main gauche {excellent}. When I cleared the level, I went to dlvl 4.
Dlvl 4 : promoted clvl 9 @92142 turns, HP44, SP16, forgot to write down total killed. Level cleared and went to 5 @103961 turns.
Dlvl 5 : promoted clvl 10 @115444 turns, HP46, SP18, 250 monsters killed. I have lost my cloak due to acid damage from a green naga. I was unable to reach one corner due to white lice breeding in the room leading to it. I did not farm them because they were hurting me faster than I killed them. That is the status so far, but I think that this character will be my third winner, his luck is good with that helm and killing Smeagol...

If your purpose is to talk about low-str chars, you should toss your armor that is +0. It's not worth the weight once you can manage AC 10. Technically, wear it until slow(-1) and then toss, but that's the principle.

As to the junk, you should not waste a scroll to identify {magical} items. Wield them, and pick some fights.

Does wielding identify them in 3.1.0 beta? I am reluctant to try it otherwise because I do not have the remove curse prayer yet. Also, as a priest I would not feel comfortable with those weapons...

As to the armor, my carrying load is only 86%. If I have to drop something, it will be junk, not my armor. I try to have 3x my character level in AC, so actually (at AC25 and clvl 10) I am running short by 5 already...

ACK!!!

3.1.1 is seriously annoying when you get to the "something pushes past something" messages, but 3,1,0 is seriously buggy. I figured you would have moved on by now.

Make the move. You'll be glad you did.

As to the armor, there's no room for discussion. We are too far apart. At least one of us is completely wrong.

I finished dlvl 5, recalled, and was lucky - scrolls identify in the alchemy shop. I sold potions and scrolls, then bought scrolls identify and checked my loot : main gauche of frost from Smeagol sold for 3062, wand of wonder for 325, wand magic missile for 302, main gauche (+3,+5) for 710, robe [2,1] for 87, main gauche (+3,+3) for 542, and the other stuff was junk. I bought a lead filled mace and sold my mace for 109. I bought prayer books 3 and 4, potions of heroism, scrolls identify, 99 arrows, a cloak, gauntlets, 5 scrolls enchant w to-hit, and the only scroll enchant w to-dam. I enchanted my LF mace, not the longbow, because I will be running out of arrows before I recall again. I will use a scroll of deep descent that I identified. I used the last cash to buy/sell unknown potions and scrolls, then buy miscellaneous consumables - see dump LCC4 if you are interested.

HP46, SP18, AC28 without prayer, hitting 1@9, shooting 1@7.5, speed -1 will improve as I use up consumables, turn 129110, experience 571, killed 338 monsters. I am on track for a 650k turn game.

It doesn't work that way--to get a 650K win, you need to be getting towards dl 40 by 120K turns, and around cl 25. The first 10 cls are over very fast, often from killing a few wolves and weaker Hounds.

We shall see. I am currently on dlvl 12 at clvl 11 fighting orcs and barely able to survive. I would not be able to survive without the prayer sanctuary, because I do not yet have prayer portal...

You won't be able to kill Orcs until you get Protection from Evil and reliable Orb of Draining. Then you'll be able to mow them down by the dozens.

That was a mistake IMO. By CL 6 you should have portal, guaranteed. Wait on learning spells at CL 3 or 4 if necessary [depending on wisdom] so that by the time you reach CL 6 you will be able to have learned 4 spells from book 2. Or you could even arrange to guarantee portal at CL 5. I suppose an unlucky kill that jumped you from CL 4 all the way to CL 7 could screw up the plan, but that possibility seems pretty remote.
