Finally! Lucky with randarts

I just won with my rogue

http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=10162

This game's randarts were quite good, actually. There were several slots where the game generated absolutely zero end-game quality pieces (like body armor, maybe excepting the one in my bank) but it generated a ton of good jewelry and weapons. And it seemed like every damn randart had telepathy or an immunity on it, so that made things easier. Early telepathy is like a warm blanket... And my palantir activated for "Map The Whole Damn Level" which made it super easy to farm vaults and dragon pits. Here are the top few notables:

I used this with a ring of acid to batter down Sauron in about 10 rounds. 8 attacks/round O_o
Quote:
The Broad Sword 'Durung' (2d5) (+11,+10)
----------------------------------------
+3 attack speed.
Provides immunity to acid.
Provides resistance to fear, blindness.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
I melee'd Morgoth with this beauty. 108 damage per swing (due to the +36 damage on the weapon).
Quote:
The Lance of Saukastal (5d8) (+8,+36) [+7]
------------------------------------------
+3 strength, tunneling.
Provides resistance to acid, fire, nether, disenchantment.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
Sustains dexterity, constitution.
Speeds regeneration. Aggravates creatures nearby.

When aimed, it fires a magical arrow with damage 150.
Takes 132 to 242 turns to recharge.

Radius 1 light.

Min Level 48, Max Level 127, Generation chance 1, 30.0 lbs
This was definitely a game of Rings. This one helped a lot with having 2 immunities and a host of resists, FA, hold life, and +DEX and +INT.
Quote:
The Ring of Ithel (+5,+4)
-------------------------
+3 intelligence, dexterity.
+15% to searching.
Provides immunity to lightning, fire.
Provides resistance to acid, fear, nexus, nether, chaos, disenchantment.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
Sustains intelligence.
Prevents paralysis. Sustains your life force.

Min Level 58, Max Level 127, Generation chance 2, 0.2 lbs
And this is the crowning achievement, which I was fortunate enough to find. Super useful in all ways.
Quote:
The Ring of Angwaelos
---------------------
+6 strength, intelligence, wisdom, dexterity, charisma, tunneling, speed.
Provides resistance to acid, lightning, fire, cold, fear, light, dark,
blindness, shards.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
Sustains intelligence, constitution.
Feather Falling. Prevents paralysis. Grants the ability to see invisible
things.

When aimed, it allows you to breathe for 300 damage.
Takes 240 to 450 turns to recharge.

Radius 1 light.

Min Level 91, Max Level 127, Generation chance 1, 0.2 lbs

That's amazing luck with the sustains as well--you had the important 4 covered for your melee fight with Morgoth. There are often sustain gaps when using randarts!

So true, it's always a good idea to keep a crown of might around for the final fight when playing randarts.

Since the RNG didn't grace me with many useful body armors, I just used a Robe of Permanence to cover the sustains. I had a Rod of Restoration, but rarely used it.

I'm suprised that you didn't use that artifact cloak. It would have given you rConf and susWis. Your weapon was already aggravating. Seems like a moot point now, though...

You're right, and I did think of that before I went after Sauron, but somehow I forgot about it when I was prepping for M....

I think next I'm going to do a regular artifact game. No hybrids this time, either full warrior or full caster.

The ring is nice, but
Quote:
The Lance of Saukastal (5d8) (+8,+36) [+7]
is just insane. With a branding ring, this thing will do ~165 damage/blow, or 825 damage/turn. That is approaching Ranger-with-Bard damage, in melee.
