Favorite Inscriptions
I'd like to start using more inscriptions. I currently use only one {!!} and I find it incredibly helpful.
I did a little looking around but was unable to find a comprehensive list of useful inscriptions. If you could just post some of your favorite inscriptions here, with a brief description of how and why it works, I'll compile them here in this first post, for future reference. {!!} Notifies you when a rod or activatable item has recharged. {@m1} Cast from spell book 1 via m1 (increment the number for other books) {@b1} Browse spell book 1 via b1 {@w1} Wield primary weapon via w1 {@w2} Wield digger/secondary weapon via w2 {@0@1} and {@0@2} Swaps your primary and secondary weapon/digger via x {@f0} Fire this ammunition via f0 {!x} Confirm before taking action x {!k} Confirm before destroying this item. {!d} Confirm before dropping this item. {!v} Confirm before throwing this item. {!*} Confirm before doing anything with this item. {=g} Automatically pick up items identical to this one. {^;} Do not walk while wielding this item. (useful for your digger) {^.} Do not run while wielding this item. Last edited by buzzkill; February 24, 2009 at 17:47. |

Autoinscribe "!d!k" on things that should be excellent but are not, such as elven cloaks or chaos blades, until you don't care any more. That was also needed for dragonscale in some version.

I use that on scrolls of *identify* also, because it happens too easy that I want to read an id scroll and accidentally read the *id* one.

Heh, for some reason all I can think of now is "THE SLIME DRAWS NEAR"
![]() edit: oh, right, inscriptions... well I'm not well versed in them either, but for vanilla and variants lacking quiver and ammo-autopickup I inscribe my ammo with this: @f0=g The @f0 means I can fire it by typing f0, while the =g means I automatically pick it up when I step over it

I combine this with a macro that has ` set to "\e\e\ef0*t" so that it automatically fires at the nearest monster. That little trick has probably cut down my keypresses down by the hundreds of thousands.

. I also tack on a few escape sequences on the end to clear messages about damage and such (probably not needed with the leading sequences, but avoids having to clear more prompts after shooting the last visible monster).I usually also inscribe similar macro's for some of the Function keys for my most used attack spells when playing a mage. (For those cloud type spells that can be targeted in the middle of a group, I leave off the final firing key). I also like to inscribe my first weapon if/when I enchant it up significantly, with some psuedo artifact name like {Throck's Slasher} Last edited by Elsairon; January 15, 2009 at 16:47. |
