Feanor! One of the top 5 artifacts in the game, and exceedingly rare. You won't see that again for a looong time. A very lucky find.

In case it's not clear, this is possibly the best artifact you can find. These now give you huge flexibility with the rest of your kit, because that plus your speed ring (or even possibly minor speed bonuses from other gear) covers your permanent speed requirements. Also they're really rare and some people play for years without ever finding them

With Feanor you only need +5 speed from somewhere to achieve +20, which means you can replace the speed ring with the right gear. "Trickery could provide some speed, so could a ring of power. Most importantly, you need the sustains. Your ring of bodykeeping would do, but the ring slot is wasted for that purpose. Shield would be an option, robe of sustenance, or a crown of might if you have ESP from elsewhere. Basically, keep farming for a little longer ![]() home storage junk: - scrolls of remove curse (those are sold in the temple) - scrolls of satisfy hunger - Osondir - Hurin - Totila - XBow of accuracy - all of your bolts Last edited by Estie; April 3, 2019 at 15:44. Sustains are a luxury. Restoring (Life/Vigor/Augmentation) are enough. Your biggest weakness by far at this point is lack of any way to deal with M's summons and damage. Otherwise, sustain str/Con is fine, along with just little more speed.

He is not in a competion for a low turncount win, he is trying to get his first winner. Sure, with a dozen potions of life, sustains are a luxury; but given the choice to rush to the endgame or keep increasing the power of his level 43 warrior, I recommend the latter. Not losing damage output during the fight is a factor and working in sustains into the kit isnt any harder than starting to collect restoration mushrooms - both happen naturally during play.

@Estie--
Normally I'd agree. But not when the guy is coming in after winning Crawl, Rogue, etc. That is why he is having so successful (and fast) a game. Angband is a simpler game. Pos, Sil, etc are likely to be more to his taste after a quick familiarization game. |

Thanks again everyone. Anwe has made it to level 80 and has a couple of spots that are covered.
Complete N00b’s Journey: Part 3-15 So I began by dropping all of the items Estie suggested, and recalled back to D:75. I clear a vault containing Lorgan, Chief of the Easterlings and a cadre of mixed monsters, and find the Wicker Shield of Elros, which was good for confusion resistance but nothing else. The level also contained a Potion of Experience, which I quaff to get to level 44, and a potion of Augmentation, which I quaff to max out my stats. I decend to D:76, where I find a better ring of speed and take out Fang, Farmer Maggot’s dog and Ungoliant the Unlight, although doing so took All of my potions of Healing, forcing me to stay away from engaging any Uniques until I replenished my stock. I did find a potion of *Healing* on the same level, giving me justification to go to a vault and kill Castamir the Ururper, who dropped the Pick of Erebor, which was not a good weapon at this point. I teleport out of the vault after running into the Mouth of Sauron, and leave the level. Upon reaching D:77, I quickly descend to D:78 after a gelugon summons a large amount of major demons my way. D:79 had the Mithril Shield of Gil-Galad, which had the sustain dexterity attribute. I decide to drop the Wicker Shield of Elros, since the confusion resistance was not worth giving up the strength bonus from my current shield. D:80 saw me getting to level 45 due to a Potion of Experience that I found there. I also discovered a potion of Life through quaff-id and get the Band of Tulkas and two scrolls of *Destruction*, making my pack super-full and forcing me to Recall back to the surface. I drop off my Potion of *Healing* and scrolls of *Destruction* and Teleportation, buy fresh stocks of Scrolls of Phase Door and Recharging, switch my body armor for a Multi-Hued Dragon scale mail, and conclude the part. The goal now is to get to get to at least D:88 and get as many of the following as possible: 3 more potions of *Healing* on top of those that I have now 5 Potions of Life 14 Potions of Speed 5 Scrolls of Mass Banishment 1 more scroll of Banishment Missiles of Slay Evil or Holy Might Is the band of Tulkas worth replacing any of the rings that I have collected? Or should I keep my ring of speed + ring of damage setup? Are rods of Healing worth carrying? I believe so, but I’ve heard they’re not to reliable of a healing option and that potions are still far superior in that regard. What should I do with the Mithril Shield of Gil-Galad: Stash it, keep it as a backup, or wear it? Which of the below Uniques are worth facing? Baphomet, the Minotaur Lord Thuringwethil, the Vampire Messenger Pazuzu, Lord of Air Cantoras, the Skeletal Lord Lungorthin, the Balrog of White Fire Any other Uniques of note that I could run into at this point that I need to take note of? The ladder has been updated with Anwe’s status, and I appreciate any tips and answers that you can throw my way. |

Thuringwethil, maybe cantoras, depending on slays. Lungorthin and Pazuzu are bad without suitable immunity. (Fire, elec.) Baphomet has no drop

Don't worry about the ammo too much. You are already plenty strong to kill M in melee. (Let alone Sauron. You'd have done better to kill Sauron than Ungoliant with those healing potions.)
Speed 20, good HP and damage are by far the dominant determinants in success for equipment. Just about everything else is negotiable, but you may have to trade consumables for equipment and accept a higher chance of losing. |

Your have enough potions of *healing*, though you are low on healing and ccw. You need !life only if you are lacking sustains, so if you can wear Gil-Galad without losing too much str/con, you are set.
For Sauron, an anti summoning bent corridor works well. The routine against Morgoth looks like this: You melee him, when you get low on health (<700), read a ?phase (bring a full stack of those to the fight), make sure he has no LOS, heal up while M moves towards you, using rods and low potions in preferance. He drains charges, so wands/staves should be empty before engagement, only to be charged at need out of melee range. More importantly, he summons. If other dangerous creatures are close by, use ?phase as above; M will follow you through walls, leaving the summons behind. If there are too many summons, either use mass banish or teleport M away, destruct and wait for him to return. Last edited by Estie; April 4, 2019 at 03:33.
